“Who Are You???”

“Who Are You???

I love my job, period.  I consider all of you family, not “clients”. I’ve seen some pretty amazing transformations from all of you. I’ve built close relationships with all of you. I’ve had some of you confide in me with personal stuff in your lives, some bad, some good, but the fact that you feel comfortable enough to come to me makes me feel great. I may not always have the best advice, but you can be sure you’ll have someone who will listen to you, give you a hug or “bro hug”, then yell out 3, 2, 1, GO and push you to your limits. And you can disagree all you want, but it’s the best therapy of all. So, basically, I consider all of you Family. But what I’ve realized is that, not all of “my family” knows each other. We have people that only come in the morning, people that only come in the afternoon and evening… You dont get to interact with the entire RCCF Family. So, here’s what I’m asking… I’m gonna come up with a few questions and ask that all of you email me your answers, armandovmacias@yahoo.com. When I get your response, I’ll take a pic of you during a WOD, and put it up on the post so everyone can get to know you a little better. And I guess I’ll start…

Name: Armando Vicente Macias… Mando

Hometown: Born in Inglewood, CA, and raised in Lennox and Hawthorne before moving out to Moreno Valley.

Age: 27 (Now… 30…) July, 19th, 1984.

How long have you been CrossFitting: “CrossFitting” since 2006. Performing Constantly Varied, Functional Movements at High Intensity since 2002.

Favorite WOD: “SchoolBoy” AMRAP in 20 Mins- 5 BodyWeight Deadlifts and 1 Rope Climb. 25 Rounds. What can I say, I can climb a Rope!

Least favorite WOD: Nancy-OverHead Squats and Running… YUCK!!! Least favorite movement though would be Pistols… Stupid!!!

Most Memorable PR: Anytime I almost beat Ivan… LOL.  Honestly, my most memorable PR is not “my” PR at all, but watching my fiance Danielley get her first Pull Up! As for me, I dont know about “PR”, but I have 2 memories in my mind… Getting my first Muscle Up, amazing feeling, then 3 days later, attempting “Nasty Girls”… If you dont know what that is, look it up… Rough night with a lot of cursing!

Sports and Fitness background: I played Baseball since I was able to walk. Played Pitcher, Short-Stop and Third Baseman. Made the All Star Team a lot. Started playing Football in 6th grade. Loved it. Middle Linebacker. Teenage boy that got to hit people legally! Awesome! After high school, went off to the Marine Corps, became a Marine Corps FireFighter and became Director Of Training for our Unit… Just about sums that up…CertifiedPersonal Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Certified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and I can program WODs like a MothaF***@!!! Im also a mean Pool Volleyball Player!

How did you first get exposed to CrossFit… Take us back to your first WOD… Where you nervous… How did it feel: As I was doing Shoulder Shrugs with wrist straps on and 405lbs on the bar, one of my old friends came over and said, “Mandeezy, try this…” I cant remember the exact numbers, but I think  it was 10 Rounds of a 250 Meter Row and 25 95lbs Bench Press. I was not nervous. 1/4 of the way in I became nervous, 1/2 way in I wanted to quit… Once I was done… I felt amazing! I found what I was missing!

What kind of changes have you experienced, physically and mentally,  since starting CrossFit: Physically- Let me put it this way… As a Marine, I wish I would have been introduced to this form of training earlier on. Being strong doesnt mean having ”22 inch Guns”, it means being able to perform when performance is needed. Being able to “Deadlift” your wounded Marine off of the ground and throw him or her over your shoulder and Run 1 Mile to get them into the Medi-Vac Helicopter… Mentally… Life is a piece a cake now!

What sorts of changes have you experienced in your life as a result of CrossFit: This will be off the charts from most of your answers… Ivan has changed my life because he has given me the opportunity to do what I love to do and make that my ”occupation”, which I would never call what I do my occupation, it’s my passion. The changes I have experienced in my life are not due to “CrossFit”, but due to the “RC CrossFit Family” who I encounter everyday. I get home late as Hell, shower up, eat, put up the blog and hope that the next day, I’m a better Coach than the day before and that you become a better person than the day before…

Share some of your favorite moments at RCCF: The day we got the keys to The Box…

What advice would you give “first time” CrossFitters: You don’t have to be Great to Start, but you have to Start to be Great…

What are your hobbies, talents and interests outside of CFR: Hobbies… I’ve been told I’m a pretty good writer… Talents… I can break dance (actually “Pop”) pretty darn good… Interests… My Danielley… OK, bring it on! Im sure I’ll get all kinds of “mushy mushy” crap for that…”

So, I have gotten a few responses back from this Post in the past. But I really want everyone to get involved in this. I can’t tell you how many times a day, everyday, that I hear someone look at the WhiteBoard Scores and ask, “Who’s that?” So please get your info to me so I can just keep putting up new faces every single day. As your Coach, I get to see the amazing things you guys and gals do in The Box day in and day out. I get to hear about your life outside The Box. Well, why not share all of that with your RC CrossFit family…

Again, I started it off, just copy and paste the Q & As and input your answers.

And again… This was my original Post from 2011… I plan on updating it this week!
