Riverside Police Officers Dayna & Strawberry!!!

“While on patrol late Tuesday night (Sept 1st, 2015), Riverside Police K9 Officer D. Hill approached an occupied vehicle in the downtown area, he began to talk with the family inside and found out they were living in their vehicle as the husband just lost his job as a plumber and are desperately trying to make ends meet and get out of their rough patch. During the conversation their son jumped out of the car like a superhero and was full of joy.
This family of five really tugged on Officer Hill and his heart, he knew something had to be done. Officer Hill reached out to a friend to see if they might be able to get some help. The family was given a phone number and contacted me earlier today.
I met up with the family this evening at the park and then took them to dinner to discuss with them some of the resources out there and to see how we might be able to help them as a group. I couldn’t get over how wonderful these parents are, truly genuine sweet people and how dang awesome their kids are and full of joy and laughter.
While we were eating dinner Riverside Police Officers Baird and Cruz were outside taking a report on some criminal activity and happened to see us having dinner inside, they waved and smiled. I went outside to say hi and told them what was going on. They said that they need to have a roof over their heads tonight even if they had to buy them a hotel room for the night.
Officers Baird and Cruz said they would go check a local shelter real quick and see if they can make some room for them.
When the Officers returned they had the biggest smiles on their faces when they gave the good news that the shelter had just enough beds to accommodate them for the next 60 days. It was pretty emotional hearing how thankful they were.
Officer Hill met up with everyone tonight after his shift to see the family and say hi. They were given a Police Escort to the shelter and their temporary home until they get back on their feet.
The Trevino Family names are Gabriel and Ruby, and their children’s names are Aiden, Daniel”Dan-Dan” and Evanii. This is just the beginning of a wonderful journey for this family. Ruby is a full time student to be a medical assistant, Gabriel takes any side plumbing work when he can in hopes of finding a full time job.
Thank you very much Riverside Police Officers “Hill, Baird and Cruz”, you are heroes to the Trevino family and are a living testament and example of what a wonderful Police Department we have, keep up the fantastic work!

Progress stories on the Trevino family are to come, so we may share in their journey…”
